~LORE~
Heaven's Gate was a religious cult founded in 1970's United States on the belief of one thing: JESUS IS AN ALIEN AND HEAVEN IS IN SPACE. In order to ascend to heaven, one must simply strip oneself of all human relations and qualities to get ready for sexi alien time up in the sky. The main goal for members of the cult was to prepare for the “transition” to a new life on a spaceship. It wasn't until 1985 when co-founding member Bonnie Nettles (or Ti as she was known to cult followers) passed away suddenly that Heaven's Gate began to slowly take a dark turn. 12 years after her passing, Cult leader and founding member Marshall Applewhite (or Do as he was known) heard wind of the HALE-BOPP Comet's passing by Earth and realized that THIS was finally their chance to catch a one-way ticket to space Heaven. In 1997, group members including Applewhite committed mass suicide by poison consumption. Their belief was that by committing suicide, they were leaving their "earthly vessels" behind to finally ascend to a level "beyond human" and live forever in a higher state.

It seems insane to think that 39 people would band together and do such a thing... but hey... what if they were right?
